Rose quartz, like amethyst, is another variant of quartz that is highly prized for gem material. For many generations it has been associated with the heart and all forms of love. It is often found in chunks and rarely forms large crystals, which allows it to be a great stone for lapidary artists to carve and shape. Rose quartz specimens occasionally display asterism (starry patterns) like star sapphire. It has been used for thousands of years in carvings and the ancient Egyptians thought that the stone would prevent aging.
